Personal Development

Personal Development

Our lives have many components to them, many of which are interlinked e.g., career, finance, relationships, housing, spirituality, social life, family. There are times in our lives when we need to rethink where we are with one or more of the components but are not sure how to go about it. For instance, we may be unhappy in our current job role, and want to explore new options, but are not sure how to go about it.

Coaching has many tools to help you explore where you are with certain areas of your life, which are the most important, which you want to change, and how these changes may impact on other parts of your life.

There may be things you want to be, do, or have e.g. :

Be
  • You may want to be more confident in certain situations
  • You may want to be more fulfilled in your work life
  • You may want to be better at time management and prioritisation
Do
  • You may want to swim the channel
  • You may want to start up a new business
  • You may want to learn to ski
Have
  • You may want to own a house
  • You may want to own a dog
  • You may want to own a sports car

Coaching helps you transform a dream into an actuality, through a structured and facilitative approach. It ensures that your plans and goals are aligned to your core values. For instance, sometimes people choose a career because that is what is expected of them but discover that they are unhappy with it – this may be because the career does not match their values, and therefore what they truly want to do. Coaching offers you ways of exploring your values and making decisions about your future plans which are aligned with your values. It also provides you with the structure and sometimes challenge to develop a realistic and achievable action plan to achieve your goal with built-in accountability to support you to achieve what you set out to achieve. There is also lots of learning along the way which enables you to develop better problem solving, resilience, motivation and planning which can be applied to other challenges in your life in the future.

The Coaching process for Personal Development

The process always begins with an informal chat by phone to find out what you would want from coaching, and for you to hear a bit more about how coaching works. After this, if you decide to go ahead, we plan the first session - the Discovery Session which is always free of Charge. This session provides an opportunity for us to get to know each other better, and for you to explore your challenge/potential change or aspirations in greater detail. From here, if you decide to proceed with coaching, we will agree a block of 4 – 6 sessions at times and intervals to suit you. Further session can be offered by agreement. Included in these sessions is an opportunity to complete a DISC profile, which provides information on:
  • Your preferred ways of communicating
  • How you like to be communicated with
  • What motivates you
  • What your preferred environment might be
  • How you approach tasks or challenges
  • How you process information
  • The pace at which you like to work at
  • Will provide you with an in depth understanding of your strengths and development needs, together with your style of communication
I have found that DISC provides invaluable insights to clients which empower them in identifying clear goals and plans to achieve their aspirations.
