The Fork in the Road

The Fork in the Road

Throughout our lives we all go through periods of change. Some of these changes are expected and planned, e.g., going to university, parenthood, career change and retirement, whilst others are thrust upon us e.g., being made redundant, significant change of work role, or suffering from a significant illness. Either way change can be challenging and leave us feeling insecure, wondering about our identity or where we are going with life.

Coaching can support people to make successful transitions. It can help people to:
  • Explore what choices they have,
  • Ensure that the direction in which they are going truly aligns with their values
  • Empower them to make the right decisions
  • Enable them to embrace the change/decision
  • Support them to develop a realistic plan to move forward on the new situation they are in or would like to be in
  • Learn from the experience, and develop strategies to successfully manage future changes
  • Develop resilience and problem solving
  • Ensure they build in accountability to ensure they reach the goals they identify for achieving their change
Everyone works at a different pace depending on what they are faced with and how they like to approach their situation. The beauty of coaching is that it is tailored to suit every individual’s different needs, and the timeline and demands are agreed accordingly between client and coach. The suggested number of sessions would be the initial Discovery session (always free) followed by a block of 4-6 sessions at intervals and times to suit the client.

Every client is offered a DISC profile to help them understand how they process change. It will also help them understand how they react to stress, their preferred communication style when dealing with change, how they process information, and what motivates them and engages them through the change process. It provides an excellent springboard from which to start the change/decision process, and can play a key part in supporting the client to make the right decisions.
